moving on

Tea and BiscuitsPosted by hawk Wed, August 27, 2008 15:28:15

You will notice shortly that some areas of the site will no longer be advert free.
This follows the decision of google.com to accept tearoomschat.com and associated domains of tearoomschat.com as a partner in their advertising programme.
I will explain what this means to us and our possible future below, but firstly I wish to thank all the staff and members who have supported and helped this site to grow.members have helped by bringing in new faces and continuing to visit us.
Thanks to the staff that have worked actively ,recruiting and encouraging new visitors. Also to those that work behind the scenes, thanks for your dedication and taking some of the load from my shoulders, allowing me to chat more often.I hope to hand over more duties in the coming weeks.

So , what does the google deal mean and whats the plan for the future?

Well the deal means that we will now carry selected adverts on some pages, this ads will be targeted and relevant to our sites.
For example the jukebox pages may carry music related adverts.

How obtrusive? well how many adverts, the size and colour scheme is up to hawk and the commitee, We have full control and i dont expect the adverts to cause us a problem if they are placed correctly.

What does the site gain from advertising? Well obviously money, how much is hard to tell, but if adverts are not making returns we can change or remove them.
I would not expect to make much money from these adverts in the beginning, we are relatively small site but hopefully this will help us to grow.

How does it work? Well, everytime a visitor clicks one of the adverts, Google get paid by their customer and tearooms receive a percentage of that fee. so the more clicks on adverts, the more we will make. For this reason we need to encourage more people in and encourage them to click on adverts, but......obviously not sitting there all day clicking! abuse may cost us this deal.use your common sense.

what happens to the money?...........well that goes towards the minky refurbishment fund which minky will need in 20 or so years.....lipo suction, hair transplant.... wrinkle removal ect... a worthy cause i am sure you will agree.
No seriously, what happens to the money?........well, the money is paid into a dedicated bank account i have set up.

The plan is to re invest this money into our site. obviously it costs money to run this place on a yearly basis.I am prepared to pay for the costs of the site as it is now but to add more features (voice chat and video chat for all...ect) will increase costs greatly.

With investment the site will have more to offer and will attract more users, more users generates more income.

My plan has always been to create not only a great site, but a site where members contribute , run the website and eventually own it.

Dont be under any illusions though, many websites fail, many more do not make money, but even the biggest sites started from nothing.
In the event that tearoomschat.com begins to make a profit I would intend to register tearoomschat.com as a limited company and shares will be given on a pro rata basis to those that have helped build this site. The more you put in , the more you get out of it.
So if you can offer Ideas, or expertise or services Email me or the committee thanks, have fun
regards Hawk

Tearooms life

Tea and BiscuitsPosted by hawk Tue, July 22, 2008 10:08:09

I was inspired to write this by reading kates blog about friends, I began to make a comment on her post and then as usual began rambling. So rather than spoil kates wonderful page with creasy stuff ,I will post here.

Tearooms reflects life like no other site I have known. There must be similar sites out there but i have not come across them. Its not a big site ,although it grows organically for the most part, steadily, slowly but with enthusiasm.People pop in and visit us, some stay to become part of us enjoying the family feel this site has.Its not a cute, sacharin drenched smiley smiley family feeling, but a reflection of real life contained in a small window on your desk, your lap or in Kates case her bed.

Its appropriate that we refer to windows, the Lobby is a window on life. Tearooms doesnt appeal to all, naturally some people are seeking something else, so some stay and some leave.People are individuals with their own attributes and their own particular faults. Some are exciting, some boring. Some are amusing and some are deep, some are a little of everything. We choose to have these very real people as friends, as foes or just as aquantances and by making those choices we make tearooms life what we want it to be.For some,we dont yet have the right ingredients for their own particular recipe and they move on somewhere else and we wish them well and hope they return occasionally to see us.

Tearooms has comedy, drama, relationships good and bad.It brings respect for each other, educates in a fun way bringing tiny pieces of the world together. It has its ups and it`s downs. We watch out for each other and stand along side each other when the bad guy turns up. Most of all it helps us make friends of people we would not normaly meet from cultures we know little of but are learning a little of every day. Do we need friends? We need friends to grow and I grow a little each day.

Tea and BiscuitsPosted by hawk Sun, June 22, 2008 02:15:45

Welcome to our Blogs site.We hope you join us and create your own interesting Blog.

If you have any problems ,I am available to help and advise

between 3.00 am and 3.02 am on mondays if its not raining or if, indeed it is raining.

I hope this is of some use to you.

If you see any obscene photos posted in any of the blogs

please make a copy , print (on top quality photographic paper only please)

and send it to me in an unmarked brown paper bag marked urgent in invisible ink.

I will then examine the offending photograph in order to determine whether

i want to keep it or not.

On a more serious note I am sad to report

that there has recently been an incident of one "chatter"

posting about the subject of pasta,

this is not to be encouraged in anyway and any

further offence of this nature will be dealt with most severely,

by banning the use of the much overused term "lol" by this particular offender.
